The Garden District Association is excited to introduce a new neighborhood initiative, the GDA Halloween Golden Flower Award, recognizing the best Halloween-decorated home in the Garden District! This new award is a fun way to celebrate the creativity, charm, and Halloween spirit that make our neighborhood so special. We invite you to join in the fun by decorating your home and entering this year’s competition. Whether your style is spooky, classic, whimsical, or completely over-the-top, all styles are welcome!

Here’s what to expect:

Registration Opens: Monday, September 28th
Regstation fee: $25 per house
Registration & Decorating Deadline: Friday, October 16th
Community Voting: October 19th – October 25th at midnight
Winner Announced: Monday, October 26th

Participating homes will be featured in our neighborhood voting, where residents and visitors can vote for their favorite Halloween- decorated home and help select the inaugural GDA Halloween Golden Flower Award winner. Start planning your pumpkins, ghosts, cobwebs, and spooky display. We can’t wait to see the Garden District get into the Halloween spirit! Join us in celebrating the creativity and charm of our neighborhood by showcasing your Halloween décor.

Please complete this registration form by Friday, October 16th to enter your home into this year’s competition. Participating homes should have decorations fully installed and visible by that date for neighborhood viewing.

The Profiles in Preservation program will continue for any  homeowner whose home meets the historical criteria and who wants to subscribe to have the history of their home completed.

The Project in a Nutshell

Led by the Garden District Board of Directors, and in collaboration with a team of architectural historians and other experts, the program’s purpose is to showcase the Garden District’s important homes and buildings and provide accurate information for the general public. In consideration for subscription fees, participating homeowners will receive an authentic history of their homes, a beautiful bronze plaque, telling the brief history of the home, a presentation book complete with the homes’ history, professional photographs of the exteriors, interiors and gardens, and a two-page spread in a beautifully executed coffee-table style book. This book will include the first 100 homes subscribed to the program.

All homes selected for this project must first meet the criteria set forth by the Historic District Landmarks Commission as a significant or contributing structure without altering its significance through exterior renovations.
