GDSD patrol officers answered the call of a disturbance at Camp and Third street at approximately 3:30 am on Friday, May 5. A white female and a white male walking from Magazine Street were involved in an altercation with each other. The couple moved to Chestnut and Third where the incident escalated. Upon investigation, several NOPD and GDSD officers on the scene learned from the male (the husband of the female) that she had possibly ingested some type of drug and started acting out. She eventually had to be restrained by several officers. EMS arrived and tried to sedate her to no avail. She was eventually transported to a hospital for further observation. There is no further information available at this time.

On April 9 at approximately 1:30 pm, while on patrol in the 2800 block of Carondelet, GDSD Sgt. A Boulas observed five male subjects walking in the street west bound towards 6th. He then observed three of the subjects walk to the sidewalk while the two remaining male subjects stayed in the street; then observed the two male subjects still in the street scaling separately curbside/street side and pulling on car door handles. Sgt. Boulas made an attempt to make contact with said subjects at which time he observed two of the male subjects run westbound on Carondelet past the GDSD marked unit and three of the male subjects run eastbound towards Washington. The officer was able to make contact with three of the male subjects as they hid behind a tree and learned that they were juveniles living in close proximity to the location of the offense. Officer notified other GDSD units as to the the need for backup and advised them to notify NOPD. NOPD arrived shortly thereafter at which time all subjects were interviewed.

NOPD Officer advised Sgt. Boulas that all three of the subjects had prior records for burglary. NOPD Officer escorted all three said subjects to Juvenile Detention Services. Two of the subjects will be charged with curfew violations and the third will be charged with curfew violation along with tampering charges. The third subject is also being charged with possession of stolen property. Juveniles names were not given by NOPD officer due to the fact that they are juveniles.

Mardi Gras parade season is fast approaching. Many residents will be leaving town, many guests visiting and lots of activities will occur that take us all out of our daily routines. The NOPD and the uptown security districts urge you to take a few simple steps to help keep all of us safe. Think about it, when you don’t take the simple steps to protect yourself or your valuables, you invite crime that could hurt you, your family or your neighbors.

A few reminders:

Be cautious and courteous when out and about with friends.

Be deliberate and judicious about locking the doors of your cars, your homes and sheds. Do not leave valuables out for the taking or in plain sight.

Be mindful about SETTING HOUSE ALARMS, leaving homes well lit, and cameras functioning as they should.

We also encourage you to use the escort service and to give this number to your guests to use as well.

If you are going out of town, please call the security district to complete an out of town form so that the guards will check your home regularly and have the correct contact information to reach you in case there is an incident.

Thanks for doing your part!

We wish you a Safe and Happy Mardi Gras!
