Stabbing in the 1600 block of Washington

At approximately 02:40 am on April 28, 2016, GDSD Patrol Officer Ruiz responded to a call on the police scanner regarding a stabbing that occurred at 1632 Washington Ave. He was first on scene and waited for NOPD to arrive before approaching the residence. Upon investigation, they found a large pool of blood in the courtyard in the rear of the building with a blood trail leading to the door of an apartment unit. They entered the residence and found the victim, a white male, upstairs in a bedroom. He had multiple stab wounds to his back and was covered in blood.

EMS arrived and transported him to the hospital. He was conscious while EMS treated him and he said he was stabbed by his current girlfriend’s ex boyfriend who left the scene with the girlfriend after the stabbing. The crime scene was secured until crime lab could arrive to process the scene. News on the police radio noted that the suspect was apprehended at the corner of St. Charles and First by NOPD. No further information was available at the time of this notice.
