Superica Restaurant Hearing Postponed til March 13

Another Public Hearing Deferral Will Be Requested for Superica Restaurant

Attorneys for Supercica Restaurant have confirmed with the GDA this morning that they have been asked by their clients to seek another deferral for a public hearing before the City Planning Commission. Therefore the hearing will not take place on February 27th as planned. The new hearing date, if the project moves forward, will be March 13.

The request for a Conditional Use permit to allow a restaurant of approximately 7000 sf to locate in the current Smashburger site at 3300 Magazine has been deferred several times to allow the applicants to have more time to work out parking and other issues important to both the Garden District Association (GDA) and the Irish Channel Neighborhood Association (ICNA) and many surrounding neighbors. The latest meetings with the developer and their attorneys produced no additional information on mitigating the impact the oversized restaurant will have on the surrounding neighbors. And the attempts to find nearby parking to meet their requirement have not been successful, according to their attorneys.

The GDA remains opposed to this request as it now stands based on the size that exceeds 5000 sf and the long term precedent it will set at that location, as well as the impact with parking that a restaurant of that size will have on the immediate neighborhood. The GDA will continue to closely monitor this issue and will keep you posted.

Letters on this issue should be sent to City Planning Commission via email to Bob Rivers: rdrivers@nola.gov
